PRX: Cooling Off

Hi friend of PRX,

Most of the country is an oven today. If you’re chilling in front of the A/C or a fan, check out a couple cool things from PRX: first, get the awesome iPhone app for public radio station WBUR in Boston. It is free, it is LOADED with good listening and we think it’s a model for station apps going forward. Then crank up Sound Opinions, the only rock-and-roll talk show on public radio. We’ve posted their cool podcasts so you can get a flavor.

Ahhh…

Sound Opinions
Little bit ‘a rock, little bit ‘a talk

Sound Opinions from PRX and Chicago Public Radio
Public radio’s only rock-and-roll talk show is now exclusively in the hands of—you know it! PRX. Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot delve into the music of legends like Michael Jackson and The Clash, introduce you to their favorite indie bands and still have time to hit up the newest in pop and hip-hop too.

Put Sound Opinions on your station! Come ‘n’ get it from PRX or have it delivered from Content Depot. Here’s how.

Liar Liar
Pants on fire?

Lies, Damned Lies, and Technology
Radio Berkman | 00:17:13
Would you exaggerate on your resume? On your LinkedIn profile? Is deceiving your spouse the same as deceiving your country? Radio Berkman’s Judith Donath and Jeff Hancock of Cornell’s Social Media Lab explore the changing nature of deception and lie-detection in the digital age.

Radiolab, Show 402: Deception
Radiolab | 00:58:55
Jad Abumbrad and Robert Krulwich go on a deception adventure with a snake that plays dead, a psychologist who reads deceit in “microexpressions” and research that makes you wonder: could self-deception be good for you?

Human Rights
They’re worth fighting for

Voice From Burma
Human Rights Watch | 00:04:18
Hear about the experiences of American citizen and democracy activist Nyi Nyi Aung, who spent six months in a Burmese prison. He tells reporter Jessie Graham: “Physically they can detain you. Mentally, they cannot.”

The Dalai Lama in Our Time
Peace Talks Radio | 00:59:03
Celebrate the Dalai Lama’s birthday with Peace Talks Radio. Suzanne Kryder talks with Tibetan scholar Dr. Robert Thurman, and Paul Ingles narrates between excerpts from the Dalai Lama himself, author Pico Iyer and clips from the 1997 movie Kundun.
