PRX: Behind the Story

Hi friend of PRX,

On Saturday morning just after the quake hit Chile and the tsunami warnings were issued, Ari Epstein from MIT and founding father of Terrascope sent me an urgent message: one of his student reporters had already done a PRX piece with survivors of the 1960 Chilean quake and massive wave.

Then WBUR’s Curt Nickisch got in touch about his nuanced piece with Harry Markopolos, the guy who uncovered Bernie Madoff as a crook long before anyone would listen. Markopolos’ book came out today; PRX offered the story Monday morning. Curt was on to Markopolos’ story long before anyone in public radio.

Lesson here: journalism has a solid home on PRX.

Bring us the news,
John

The Orchestrion: Pat Metheny’s One-Man Band
John Diliberto | 00:03:30
“This piece does a good job of tracing the Orchestrion’s history and background, shows off its oddities and somewhat bizarre leanings. But it is also an instrument capable of rising above the bizarre, especially when the Orchestrion is being orchestrated by guitar legend Pat Metheny.” – Music Curator David Srebnik, Virtuoso Voices

Couple Argues About the Environment
Avishay Artsy | 00:02:35
“This is a narrator-less exchange between a wife and husband. They differ on just how they should run their household to conserve energy and recycle…This would work well paired with something about the environment or even something about relationships.” – News Curator Naomi Starobin, WSHU
