PRX Has No Pieces on B_ _ _ oon Boy

Hi friend of PRX,

Maybe we’re out of the loop. Too grounded in reality. But PRX has absolutely nothing to offer about that big event last week that everyone covered and now regrets because it didn’t really happen.

This sounds like a subject for Philosophy Talk, it is so metaphysical in its implications. Or so ludicrous, Monty Python should weigh in. Perhaps the critical-thinking folks at Media Minutes will skewer the guilty parties. In any case…

…our hands are clean.

Jack’s Last Call: Say Goodbye To Kerouac
Sue Zizza | 00:58:56
Written by Patrick Fenton and directed by award-winning audio dramatist Sue Zizza, “Jack’s Last Call” takes place at the end of summer 1964. It is based on a recording that was made in Kerouac’s Long Island living room as he and his mother packed to leave for St. Petersburg, Florida — the place where he would finally end his many road journeys. An image of an artist in transition.

The Future of News in an Age of Social Media
CBC Radio | Two pieces: 52:14 & 53:07
Explore changes to our understanding of “journalism” now that anyone can create, report and publish news.

While there is much to celebrate about democratization of the media, there are reasons to be concerned about the loss of an independent, professional journalistic filter. Can online communities of “citizen journalists” be counted on to help us make informed choices as citizens and consumers? What’s lost, and what’s gained when “News 1.0″ gives way to “News 2.0?”
